Looking for the perfect accompaniment to your fresh, homemade bread? Amish peanut butter! It's the perfect balance of marshmallow and peanut butter - all blended into a simple, spoon-licking-good spread that whips together in minutes!
In the words of my 8-year-old daughter, Amish peanut butter is, "the most amazing, delicious peanut butter there ever was!" She loves it so much that, every year when we travel back to Amish Country to visit family, we would always get several jars of it to bring back with us for her to enjoy. That is, until recently!
My mom excitedly called me one day. She had been talking to an Amish lady and, in the course of the conversation, she mentioned how much her granddaughter loves Amish peanut butter. Wouldn't you know - the lady she was talking to happened to be in charge of making the Amish peanut butter to serve with the meal every Sunday for her community! Even better - she was more than happy to share her recipe!
Only problem was - it made a ginormous batch! Since most of us do not need gallons of this stuff, I've scaled it down to fill a pint jar.
Amish Sundays
If you live in an area with Amish communities, you may already be aware that Amish do not have church buildings. Instead, they take turns hosting their Sunday service at their homes. Following the service, everyone shares a meal while chatting with family and friends until they decide to hitch up the buggy and head for home. The family that is hosting the service is, also, in charge of organizing the meal. Now, you may be quite familiar with church potlucks, where everyone brings an item or two to share and you never know what you might get. This is a bit different. Every Sunday is the exact same meal - from the main course to dessert - and this Amish peanut butter is just one of the items that has been served Sunday after Sunday for years!
Helpful Tips
Storage: Since all the ingredients are shelf stable, once you mix this up, you can continue to store it in your pantry! I've discovered, if you try storing it in the refrigerator, it is going to be way too hard to spread on a piece of bread.
So how do you eat this? I recommend eating it on fresh, homemade bread (like this Amish white bread or dinner rolls! You can spread this on a plain piece of bread and it just like that. Or, spread on bread with a dollop of your favorite jam. My personal favorite way to eat this is, first, spread the bread with a little butter. Next, spread with the Amish peanut butter. Last, top it off with a drizzle of honey! Absolutely fantastic!
Make it. Love it. And use it however you wish!
Ingredients
¾ c. Peanut Butter (creamy not chunky).
¾ c. Marshmallow Creme.
⅓ c. Water.
⅔ c. Brown Sugar.
Directions
Add water and brown sugar to a small saucepan. Bring to a boil and stir, until the sugar has completely dissolved.
Then, remove from heat and allow mixture to cool. This is important because, if the liquid is too hot, it will cause the marshmallow creme to melt and the spread will not be light, fluffy, and spreadable.
Once cooled, mix to getter the brown sugar syrup you've just made, the peanut butter, and the marshmallow cream until thoroughly blended.
Lastly, spoon into a pint jar.
Enjoy!
